GU Trade. Our commitment to the responsible use and protection of customer information.
At GU Trade we respect the confidentiality of your personal information, and making sure it stays protected is an ongoing responsibility of ours. We provide this notice to explain how GU Trade responsibly uses and protects your non-public personal information. By “non-public personal information” we mean personally identifiable information that has not been obtained from a public source.
This policy applies both to the GU Trade website and to the GU Trade mobile app, available on Google Play and the App Store, which client companies roll out to their field teams.
Data controller: CAFERSY TRADE S.A. (GU Trade), Los Nogales, Av. Italia 6201, Montevideo, Uruguay.
1. Commitment to protecting information
We safeguard the confidentiality of all the non-public personal information you provide to us, in line with prudent security standards.
2. Collection, use and retention of confidential information
GU Trade limits the collection, use and retention of confidential information to what is necessary to run our business, provide you with quality service, meet regulatory record-keeping requirements and make available other services and opportunities that may interest you. For example, your information may be used to include you in newsletters with content you may find relevant.
We collect the information you give us in applications and forms, the information you send us voluntarily (for example, your phone number or email address) and the information we receive from authorized third parties, such as employment verifications.
3. Data collected by the GU Trade mobile app
The GU Trade app is a work tool. The employing company rolls it out to its field force and decides what information is recorded. In that context, the app collects:
- Worker identification data provided by the employer (username, name, employee ID).
- Device data needed for operation and support (model, Android or iOS operating system version, installation ID, app version).
- Content generated during the workday: orders, returns, inventories, product surveys, signatures and photos of the point of sale.
- Location data, as detailed in the next section.
In this context, the employing company acts as the data controller and GU Trade as the data processor, handling the data solely according to its instructions.
4. Location data
The GU Trade app collects the user’s precise location data (GPS) both in the foreground (while the app is open) and in the background (while the screen is locked or the app is closed). On Android it uses the ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION and ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION permissions for this; on iOS, the “Always” and “While Using the App” location permissions and the Motion & Fitness permission.
Purpose of processing. Location data is used exclusively to:
- Automatically record the worker’s arrival at and departure from the points of interest (customers) assigned to their route, using geofences.
- Audit compliance with the assigned route and validate the clock-in and clock-out of the workday.
- Ensure that the operations recorded in the app (orders, returns, inventories, product surveys, signatures and photos) were actually captured at the customer’s physical location and not remotely, guaranteeing the accuracy and traceability of the information delivered to the employer.
- Detect the user’s type of activity (still, walking or in a vehicle) for the sole purpose of optimizing GPS accuracy and battery consumption.
Recipients. The data is transmitted only to the employer’s servers (the client company that rolls out the app to its field force). It is not sold, rented or shared with third parties for advertising, commercial or profiling purposes.
Retention. Location data is kept for as long as the employer requires for its field operations audit processes, and is deleted in accordance with that company’s internal retention policies.
User control. Workers can turn off the location service at any time from within the app (the “Disable location service” option) or from the device’s system settings (Android or iOS). The company administrator can also turn off collection remotely. The app does not collect location outside the configured working hours.
While the service is active in the background, the device lets the worker know: on Android, with a persistent notification stating that their location is being recorded; on iOS, with the system location indicator.
5. Security procedures
A key part of safeguarding your confidential information is protecting it against unauthorized access or use. We restrict access to non-public information to the employees who need it in order to provide our products or services. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards in line with applicable regulations.
All communication between the mobile app and the servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. The information is hosted on Microsoft Azure infrastructure, with a separate database for each client, so one client company’s data is never mixed with another’s.
6. Sharing information with third parties outside GU Trade
We do not sell or rent personal data.
As for the business and contact information we collect through our website and through our relationships with corporate clients, we may share it, as permitted by law, with:
- government registration agencies, our regulators and auditors
- providers that support us in operating our products and services, such as email and cloud infrastructure services
Whenever other companies or third parties provide support services on our behalf, we require them to comply with our confidentiality and security standards. They may only use the information to provide that service on GU Trade’s behalf.
The data collected by the GU mobile app, including location, falls outside this arrangement: it is transmitted only to the worker’s employing company and to the infrastructure providers that make the service possible.
We may also disclose information when required by law, a court order or a request from a competent authority.
7. User rights and data deletion
You may request access to, correction, updating or deletion of your personal data, and object to certain types of processing, in accordance with Uruguay’s Personal Data Protection Law No. 18.331 and the regulations applicable in your country.
If you use the GU Trade app as a worker for a client company, please first direct your request to your employer’s human resources department or app administrator, who decides on that data. If you prefer to contact us directly, write to privacidad@gutrade.io and we will forward the request to the data controller, supporting it as appropriate.
To request the deletion of the data associated with your app account, write to privacidad@gutrade.io stating your name, the company you work for and your app username. We will respond within the time limits set by the applicable regulations.
8. Minors
The GU Trade app is a work tool and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or the regulations change. We will publish the current version on this same page, together with its date of update.
